Jasmine went to the Police Post
12 noon:
Jasmine discovered her staff pass was missing after she returned to the office from an external meeting.
12.01pm:
Jasmine called the cab company (some obscure cab company) and was transferred from one department to another and went through several rounds of "Press 1 for English... Press 0 to speak to our operator". Finally, she managed to lodge a missing item report. She is thankful that she has the receipt with her.
12.47pm:
Jasmine got a call from the cab company informing her that they are in the process of locating the cab driver and asked how she would like to collect the pass IF it was found.
Option 1 - Collect from LTA
Option 2 - Collect from Police
Option 3 - Request for the driver to return to the office and incur the transport charges.
She told them she will decide when the pass is found.
3.30pm:
Jasmine got a call from HRXXX (the company's India centralized HR team).
HR - Hi Jasmine, please collect your employment pass from the police.
Me - (getting the shivers from hearing the word "police") Erm, but I didn't apply for an employment pass. Why do I have to collect it?
HR - Your employment pass is now with the police. Can you give them a call to collect it?
Me - I am a Singaporean. I don't think I need an employment pass to work here... right?
HR - (in a clearly frustrated tone) Can you just take down this number and give the police a call to collect your employment pass?
Me - But I didn't apply for one - oh wait are you referring to my staff pass?
HR - Yes miss, your employment pass is with the police. Can you take down this number?
So she obediently did what HR said.
3.31pm:
Jasmine called the number given to her.
Me - Hi, I am Jasmine from X bank. Did you find my staff pass?
Police - Ah Yes, Jasmine! A taxi driver dropped your pass at our police post.
Me - Oh great thanks! How do I collect it?
P - You can come by our police post at MacPherson today to collect it.
Me - (muttering under her breath that the cab driver could have taken it to some place more centralized/closer to her home) Ok! You are open 24 hours so I can collect it anytime?
P - No, Jasmine. We are closed at 9.30pm.
Me - Can I come by another day then to collect it?
P - Then I will have to pass it to our HQ.
Jasmine has learnt enough economics to know that the trip her staff pass makes to the HQ would be an absolute waste of taxpayers' money and decided to collect it on the day.
4.30pm:
Jasmine got another call from the cab company.
Cab company greeted her "Hi Mdm, this is to inform you that we are still in the process of locating the cab driver so please be patient. We will inform you when we have found your staff pass."
Slightly amused, Jasmine still patiently told her the good deed the cab driver has done.
8.50pm:
Jasmine's staff pass sits comfortably back in her bag unscathed.
Lessons to be learnt:
- In the midst of crisis, do not panic.
- Police posts are not opened 24 hours.
